Want cheap flights? Two return flights from London to LAX £549? Try this app

Hopper is an app that is simple to use and in my experience pretty effective. Hopper was named the best travel app of 2015 by Apple. If like me, you are always interested in getting the best deals on flights, this app is the way to go. The most effective way to use it is to think about where you want to go nine months to a year in advance. I know this can mean making plans extremely early, but it really is the best way to get the best deals. For example, recently I was looking at flights preferably from London Gatwick to LAX over the February half term next year. I entered in the basic details of the passengers (adult/ child etc), the times I was interested in flying and the destination. The app then monitors the flights and continuously alerts you when there are price changes. You can watch several different flights at once and also compare cheaper alternative dates to fly.

Whilst I was watching my flights the app regularly updated me with any price changes. Throughout this time it alerted me to wait as cheaper prices were predicted. Eventually I had an alert to tell me I should book now because prices were likely to increase after this date. With a few more tricks up my sleeve, which I’ll explain later in the week, I booked the flights pretty soon afterwards. One word of warning, check when you purchase your deal that baggage and meals are included, particularly for long haul flights. You can get the app on the iTunes App Store or from Android

In summary, it’s a great little app to use. I am watching four more flights as I write. I’ll be back in the week to explain how I then managed to knock a bit more off my flight prices.
